Two sessions of Johnson University’s “Senior Saints in the Smokies” are taking place this year at the school in Knoxville, Tenn. The gatherings for “golden agers” will be May 22-26 and May 29–June 2.
The program includes a Bible study with Tommy Smith (president of JU), preaching by Steve White (retired senior minister of Plainfield [Ind.] Christian Church), humorist and magician Jay Banks, and a Grandparenting Matters seminar by David and Cathy Wheeler.

Many church leaders are finding the future is far less certain than ever before. To help bring the hope of God back to people, Rick Krug and Jessica Knapp have written Tombstones to Cornerstones: Hope and Help for Churches in Stress and Decline, published by Xulon Press in November 2022. One review says the authors have “captured the spirit of adventure needed to help churches ‘flourish or finish’ well,” Krug has been a minister, business founder, and college instructor for 20 years. He holds a master’s degree from Pepperdine University. Knapp is a church planter in Tucson, AZ. Repairs have begun on the iconic 165-foot masonry tower that is part of First Christian Church in Columbus, Ind., according to an article at world-architects.com. The church building, designed by architect Eliel Saarinen, is one of seven designated National Historic Landmarks in the city. Tower repairs are expected to cost $3.2 million and should be completed in November. Public and private donors and nonprofits helped raise funds for the work.
