G7 Summit: The gathering of world leaders will open today in Hiroshima. The summit will seek to establish the rule of law in the international order, Prime Minister of Japan said Fumio Kishida. In addition to leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, those from Australia, South Korea and India will also travel to the city.

Inflation Japan: April CPI inflation rate data is available today. The national core CPI is forecast to have increased to 3.4%, from 3.1% in March.

Markets: Futures in Japan are pointing higher, but those in Hong Kong are down. Wall Street stocks rose on Thursday after politicians in Washington said a bill to raise the US debt ceiling could be voted on next week. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite index hit their highest levels since August 2022, up 0.9% and 1.5%, respectively.
