On Friday, Jobling, of Keats Walk, Gatesheadappeared in Newcastle Crown Court to be sentenced on three counts of failure to comply with a restraining order and one count of criminal mischief. He had pleaded guilty to the crimes.
The court heard that on April 7, 2020, Jobling was the subject of a restraining order preventing him from contacting his mother and partner. But in May, he showed up at his house unannounced.
Kevin Wardlaw, prosecutor, said: “They were having a barbecue on the front lawn and the defendant came out into the street and asked his mother: ‘Can I use your fucking bathroom?’ there and walked to the rear of the property.
“His mother then heard him bang a brick through the window, resulting in £200 damage. She then told witnesses: ‘I’ll break your window and put the rest in too’.”
In a statement, Jobling’s mother said her actions left her “fighting to sleep” and that she is “anxious in my own home.”
Jobling had 20 prior convictions for 40 crimes, including eight prior convictions for 11 violations of court orders involving his mother and her partner, who has a disability.
Fiona Lamb, defending herself, said: “He tells me he’s so sorry and it won’t happen again and deep down he loves her to the bone and he would never hurt her. He knows she wants nothing to do with him.” . .
“He has repeatedly said that he loves his mother and understands that she just wants to be left alone. There is remorse in this case.”
Judge Sarah Mallett jailed Jobling for 21 months. The restraining order is still in effect.
