Four races into the year and it hasn’t been the start to the season that Daniel Ricciardo expected, or even the season that Red Bull bosses expected from the Australian.
It was not an easy decision for them to replace Nyck de Vries in mid-2023, but their intention was to find a viable option to replace Sergio Pérez at Red Bull if the Mexican driver had a drop in form. The hiring of Ricciardo was designed to keep Perez on his toes.
