Year 1938… Spanish Civil War was going on in Spain. During that time a person was shot in the head. The human was named Patient M. It was certain to die after being shot. But this person did not die. After being unconscious for some time, he came back to his senses. The surprising incident was that the whole world was looking upside down to that person. But they were seen walking and moving in the opposite direction.
Patient M was seeing everything coming from the opposite direction. While it was so no people were not following. Patient M’s ability to hear and feel on the skin had also increased. He had become adept at reading any word or number written anywhere in the straight and reverse directions. He did not see any difference between straight and inverted.
Patient M used to see the world upside-down many times i.e. the sky below and the earth above. Running backwards several times. Patient M was perplexed as to why the people who are constructing the building are upside down. That is, how can one work on a building hanging from the sky? Not only this, patient M could see the time of his wrist watch from any angle. That too with perfect accuracy.
Not only this, Patient M was also showing more strange symptoms. As the colors of objects are changing. Things are dividing into three identical parts. Having trouble recognizing colors. But the patience of patient M has to be appreciated. He handled all these bizarre incidents very seriously without getting upset. But these were studied for the next 50 years. The first study was started by Spanish neuroscientist Justo Gonzalo.
During the study of Patient M, in 1940, Justo Gonzalo said that the brain is not a group of different sections. But for the work of different organs, the command goes from different parts. But this definition was not understood by the scientists of that time. Alberto García Molina, a neuropsychologist at the Institute Gutman in Spain, said that the mind should be seen in a set of separate boxes.
But Justo Gonzalo said that whenever you shake a box of the mind, or change it, there is a great loss. Same is the case with patient M. Many new definitions of brain dynamics were made during the study of patient M’s brain. Scientists wanted to tell how the brain works? But every time the puzzle was getting complicated.
Finally, Dr. Justo Gonzalo said that the effect on the brain depends on how deep and how large the injury is. Not every injury to the brain affects all the functions of the body. Dr. Gonzalo distributed it and presented it to the people. He told three types of syndrome – first there is an injury in the central part, then many types of senses stop working.
Paracentral injury means there will be an effect but not an equal one. The third is marginal, that is, there will be hindrance in the functioning of certain senses. Gonzalo’s daughter Isabel Gonzalo Fonarodona is currently working with García Molina. He also studied on Patient M. He told that the study done on Patient M told scientists from all over the world how the brain works. This study of his recently neurology Has been published in
