With the help of the Republican supermajority in the House of Representatives, the Republican was able to push through an aggressive agenda that forms the basis for his candidacy for the White House, which he made official in a filing by the Federal Elections Commission filed on Wednesday.

Here’s a look at some of the guidelines:

ABORTION

Critics, including some Republicans, call the six-week law extreme, as most women don’t even realize they’re pregnant during that time frame.

The DeSantis administration expanded the controversial law, which critics call “Don’t Say Gay,” to all grade levels, banning sexual orientation and gender identity classes in schools.

The move comes after DeSantis signed a bill last year banning such classes through third grade, a policy he has advocated as a way to protect children from sexualization.

This year, the DeSantis government presented a proposal to the state board of education Extension of policy to grades 4-12, unless required by existing government standards or as part of reproductive health education, which students may opt-out of. The DeSantis-appointed board of directors approved the proposal, and lawmakers signed it into law.

DeSantis education officials said the policy aims to make it clear that teachers should adhere to the state curriculum.

PRONOUN

DeSantis has signed a bill barring school staff or students from being there required to denote people with pronouns that do not match the gender of the person.

The law also prohibits school employees from asking students what pronoun they use and prohibits employees from sharing their pronouns with students if they do not match the employee’s gender.

In addition, the law makes it a rule of every public school that “a person’s sex is an unchanging biological characteristic and that it is wrong to ascribe to a person a pronoun that does not correspond to that person’s sex.”

DEATH PENALTY

DeSantis signed two major death penalty bills into law this year.

The first ends a unanimous requirement of the jury If sentenced to death, the death penalty is admitted with a jury recommendation of at least 8 to 4 for execution. Only three of the 27 states that impose the death penalty do not require unanimity. Alabama allows a 10-2 decision, and Missouri and Indiana allow a judge to decide if there is a split jury.

The change came in response to a verdict sparing the life of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School gunman who killed 17 people in 2018.

The other death penalty law that DeSantis signed allows for this Death penalty for child rape convictionsalthough a US Supreme Court ruling banned the death penalty in such cases.

The law aims to force the conservative-controlled US Supreme Court to reconsider a 2008 ruling that found the use of the death penalty in cases of child sexual molestation unconstitutional.

Florida is one of the few states that has statutes that provide for the death penalty for child rape convictions, but has not used that penalty. Given the judgment of the High Court. The Florida Supreme Court has also ruled against the use of the death penalty in sexual molestation convictions.

DeSantis said he believes the Supreme Court’s decision was “wrong.”

WEAPONS

Still, the governor strengthened the law, releasing a statement reading “Constitutional carry is on the books” after he signed it into law.

DIVERSITY

Another new law prohibits colleges from using state or federal funds for diversity, equality and inclusion programs: a consistent goal of DeSantis.

Such initiatives, sometimes referred to as DEI, have come under increasing criticism from Republicans who argue the programs are racially divisive.

The law comes a year after he signed into law a law called the Stop WOKE Act, which restricts certain racial talk and analysis in schools and businesses. Last year’s law bans, among other things, statements that say members of a race are inherently racist or should feel guilty about past actions by others of the same race.

DISNEY

DeSantis also continued their long-standing feud with Disney this year.

The company was targeted last year for criticizing the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.

As punishment, DeSantis dissolved Disney World’s self-governing district and appointed a new board of directors to oversee community services at the sprawling theme parks. But before the new board came in, the company pushed through a last-minute agreement that stripped the new managers of much of their powers.

Disney sued DeSantis in federal court in a case that said the governor launched a “targeted government retaliation campaign” after the company opposed the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Act.

DeSantis has since signed bills to increase state oversight of the resort’s monorail and reverse agreements the Disney board made prior to the state takeover.
