Today Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the five soldiers who were martyred in Rajouri of Jammu and Kashmir. Army’s ‘Operation All Out’ against terrorists continues in Rajouri even today, while the injured soldiers are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Meanwhile, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Manoj Pandey have left for Jammu. He will also visit Rajouri and review the ongoing operations in Poonch sector.
Commander is present on the spot
Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi is present at Ground Zero to review the operation where the soldiers told him how the encounter with the terrorists started. Meanwhile, in Rajouri today, during the encounter, one terrorist was killed by the security forces while one is likely to be injured. In the seizures made so far, a large quantity of magazines and ammunition including 1 AK56, 9mm pistol, 3 grenades have been recovered.
The identity of the killed terrorist is being ascertained. This is the second encounter with terrorists in Baramulla in the last 48 hours. On Thursday, two terrorists were killed in Kreeri area. There is a possibility of hiding more terrorists in the area and the search operation is going on.
Five soldiers were martyred
Earlier on Friday itself, five army personnel were martyred during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir. An injured jawan is still undergoing treatment. In terms of security, internet services have been stopped in the district. Among the five soldiers who were martyred, two were from Himachal Pradesh, one each from Uttarakhand, Jammu Kashmir and West Bengal.
Search operation in the area going on since May 3
On May 3, a joint operation was launched on specific information about the presence of terrorists in Kandi forest of Rajouri sector. On May 5 at around 7:30 am, a search party got information about the terrorists hiding in the cave. This cave is made in steep rocks. When the army personnel reached there and tried to take them out, they detonated the bomb.
There was a terrorist attack in Poonch
A few weeks back, terrorists had targeted an army convoy in Poonch, in which 5 soldiers were martyred. The terrorist organization People’s Anti Fascist Front (PAFF), which took responsibility for the Poonch terror attack, had threatened to attack again after this. People’s Anti Fascist Front is a supported organization of Jaish-e-Mohammed. After the abrogation of Article 370, the People’s Anti-Fascist Front emerged as a proxy outfit of Jaish.
Action continues against terrorists
Let us tell you that at present the number of active terrorists in the valley is around 50. Apart from this, there are currently 20-24 foreign terrorists in the valley. According to central agencies, 30-35 terrorists are local and the rest are foreign terrorists. DGP Dilbag Singh told that we have surrounded the eco system of terror from all sides. Whether it is action on stone pelters or separatists, action on financiers or confiscation of weapons coming through drones from across the border. Police and security forces have succeeded in controlling terrorism to a great extent. Where from the year 2017 when the number of terrorists was 350, now their number has come down to double digits.
