BALTIMORE, April 3, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — On Thursday, April 4, Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzmánhead of the US Small Business Administration (SBA) and President Biden’s Cabinet voice for America’s more than 33 million small businesses, will travel to Baltimore, Maryland, to highlight federal resources available to help businesses weather the economic impact of the Francis Scott Bridge collapse Key as part of the Biden-Harris deal. Administrator Guzmán will first organize a round table behind closed doors together US Senator Ben Cardin, Congressman Kweisi Mfume, and Mayor Brandon Scott meet with small business owners affected by the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and hear about the challenges they face. Then, Senator Cardin, Representative Mfume, and Mayor Scott will join Administrator Guzmán for a tour of the SBA Business Recovery Center and media availability. In the afternoon, Administrator Guzmán will join a press conference with Governor Wes Moore to provide an update on the SBA’s economic recovery efforts.
In the wake of the bridge collapse, the SBA has made available long-term, low-interest Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to affected business owners to help them overcome temporary loss of income. The SBA also acted quickly to open two Business Recovery Centers (BRC) on April 1 to help business owners complete their disaster loan applications, accept documents for existing applications, and provide the status of loan applications.
