A four-bedroom showhome is due to open on the former American Adventure theme park site. Avant Homes Central has opened a showhome at its £23m Shipley Lakeside development site. We have a picture gallery of what people can expect at the bottom of this article.
It is the latest chapter in the saga of a piece of land that can be traced back over 900 years. Though most will remember it as the home of the American Adventure, its recorded history goes back to Shipley Hall, a country estate recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086. Sine then, the area next to Shipley Park has been a colliery, an open cast mine, parkland, and, in 1976, large swathes of Shipley Country Park were set aside for a theme park-type development.
The first attempt to create an attraction for Derbyshire residents, Britannia Park, proved to be a disaster after opening in June 1985. It closed after just two-and-a-half months, having run out of money. It was replaced in June 1987 by the much-loved American Adventure. Sadly, the park went into decline years later and was sold on to various companies, before closing for good in 2006.

Now, Avant Homes have sent Derbyshire Live some exclusive photos of the inside of one of these homes and if you’re interested, the four-bedroom Trewbrook house-type showhome is available to view so buyers can get a feel for the properties.
Situated one mile from Heanor town centre on Pit Lane, the 70-home flagship development comprises a mix of three, four and five-bedroom homes, with prices ranging from £259,995 for a three-bedroom detached property to £499,995 for a five-bedroom detached house.
As with all properties at Shipley Lakeside, the showhome features an open-plan living space, a designer kitchen with integrated appliances and boutique bathrooms complete with designer tiling and contemporary sanitaryware. Disappointingly, suggestions by Derbyshire Live readers for road names such as Missile Way and Runaway Train Lane on the new housing estate were not taken up by the developer.
Avant Homes Central sales and marketing director, Dawn Bennett, said: “Our Shipley Lakeside development has become a fantastic part of the Shipley community, and we’re excited to continue to provide high-quality homes for the area.
“We’re pleased that potential buyers can now come and view our Trewbrook showhome. I encourage anyone interested in a new home in Shipley to pay us a visit, so they can see for themselves why our development is so popular.”
Avant Homes Central currently has nine live developments ranging from Chesterfield to Mansfield with many more due to start as the business continues to implement its growth plans. The Avant Homes Group currently operates across the Midlands, north of England and Scotland from eight regional operating businesses.
At present, the housebuilder employs more than 600 people with ambition to grow further across its existing regions and beyond, creating communities and providing employment opportunities for many.
