Belfast-based company Sensoteq said it was “delighted and surprised” to have won the Small Business of the Year title.

Sensoteq designs wireless reliability sensors to monitor the health of machines that co-founder Alan McCall has compared to “a Fitbit for a machine.”

“We monitor key parameters of rotating machines. We monitor machines from all over the world in different companies,” he stated.

Sensoteq’s goal is to help industrial manufacturers transition to greener, safer and more responsible practices.

Its wireless IoT solutions are helping some of the world’s largest companies change their manufacturing operations.

Sensoteq is a dynamic, fast-growing company based in Belfast with a mission to “deliver a sustainable future to the industrial world”.

After receiving the award from Kathryn Holland, commercial director of Down Royal Racecourse, McCall admitted she did not expect to win.

“I didn’t expect it at all. One of my team introduced the company, so to get here today was an accomplishment and then to win is incredible,” McCall said.

The company has just celebrated eight years of activity, after its founding by Mr. McCall and Idir Boudaoud.

McCall said: “We are providing sensors to around 42 companies around the world, all from a small company in Belfast, but we are growing and growing.”

McCall thanked the judges and the award’s sponsor, Down Royal Racecourse, and hopes the award can help Sensoteq grow in prominence.

“It’s fantastic for us to get the recognition, we’ve been kicking around for a while but we’re really trying to get our name out there and we hope this award can help us.”

Sensoteq hopes to continue expanding the business in the coming years. “We are currently running a recruitment drive so we hope to be able to bring good people into the business.

“We have received a lot of investment over the last year and we are planning to double or triple the company in the next year or two.

“So this award will really help us get our name out there a little bit more and hopefully attract and retain the talent to sustain the business.”
