Honeypot Cottage, on Park Lane, is believed to date back to the 19th century and was originally a fisherman’s cottage.
It was once home to Thomas Wayth, known as a colourful character from a distinguished merchant and seafaring family, who went on to become Southwold’s first harbourmaster.
The building has since been given Grade II listed status by Historic England and expertly restored to create a comfortable and stylish home – in fact, Savills’ property agent Alexander McNab, selling the property, says it is one of the “most enchanting and delightful coastal cottages” he’s ever seen.
“Immaculately presented with a wealth of period charm, I especially love the excellent ceiling heights, the courtyard garden and [the] views from the second-floor bedroom,” he says.
According to Rightmove, Honeypot Cottage is one of the most expensive two-bed properties in the town, which has recently been named one of the UK’s coolest places to live. The most expensive is the Garden House, an instantly recogniseable home nestled on the clifftop, which is currently listed at £925,000.
Honeypot Cottage, in contrast, is much closer to other residences in the town and boasts an attractive red-brick façade with sash windows on the ground and first floors and a pretty Georgian panelled door to the front.
Inside, highlights include the sitting room with its charming wooden chimneypiece, wide wooden floorboards and sash windows and the light-filled kitchen and dining room, which has been designed in a practical and contemporary style.
It has plenty of cupboards and shelving space and an integrated Neff oven and a gas hob.
Stairs lead down from the kitchen into the dry cellar, whose exposed beams were originally ships’ timbers, and a partially glazed door in the kitchen leads out and into the courtyard garden.

The principal bedroom is located on the first floor and features the building’s original chimney, as well as a sash window and a useful built-in cupboard.
The family bathroom, also on this floor, is decorated with wood panelling and has a rolltop tub.
On the second floor there is a second double bedroom offering fine views of Southwold lighthouse and St Edmunds church.
Outside there is a lovely courtyard garden, ideally sized for al fresco dining, and pedestrian access to Lorne Road.
