São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican) again defended the privatization of the port of Santos, an issue opposed to the administration of São Paulo and the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
“I never give up, I have eternal hope and I will fight to the last moment because it’s good. It’s good for Sao Paulo State, it would be big news for Baixada Santista. (…) In recent years we have succeeded in mobilizing a lot of private capital in the port sector. What is at stake when we talk about the privatization of Santos? The competitiveness of Porto,” he said in an interview with Band’s Canal Livre program.
The governor said that Lula did not appear to have made a final decision on privatization, but reminded that Ports and Airports Minister Márcio França is reluctant to discuss the issue, which is making talks difficult.
“The conversation with President Lula was very good. What the President said: “Look, I have no dogma. If my team thinks it’s good, I’ll do it. No problem’. There is greater resistance from the port minister, he doesn’t want to, I understand.”
The entire interview with the governor will be broadcast on tape this Sunday (30th) at midnight.
