When it comes to to the originals, Netflix and Amazon have the deepest libraries of prestige movies. but since then coda won the Oscar for best pictureApple TV+ has been a serious contender in the original movie space.
Granted, as with any streaming service, not every movie on the list is a winner, but since Billie Eilish documentaries to the Sundance darlings, Apple’s streaming service is building a robust catalog to work alongside its growing list of beloved tv shows.

This is the one that put Apple TV+ on the map. The film’s title is an acronym for “deaf adult child”. It is the story of Ruby, the only hearing person in a family that includes two deaf parents and a deaf brother. When Ruby discovers her love for music, she is forced to reconcile her own aspirations with those of her family, who have a small fishing business and often need her for communication. warm and exciting coda It’s the kind of movie that will make you cheer and cry at the same time.

If you have read the reviewsyou know this movie is not exactly good, per se, but if you want to see Captain America (Chris Evans) and a future John Wick franchise (Ana de Armas) fall in love as part of the dumbest possible premise: He’s a farmer! He is a secret agent! This is for you. Give this movie a chance (sted).
The world is a bit blurry
By now, thousands of pop music fans know the Billie Eilish monomyth: a young, slightly punk and slightly gothic teenager starts making songs in her brother’s room, puts them online and becomes one of the world’s biggest pop stars. It’s a great story, but that’s only a quarter of the story of Eilish’s rise to superstar status. The world is a bit blurry fill in (some of) the blanks. Director RJ Cutler got incredible access for this film, which chronicles everything from Eilish’s songwriting process with his brother Finneas to their candid conversation about his Tourette. It’s the kind of music documentary that redefines the music documentary.
Cha Cha Royal Soft
Sundance hits starring Dakota Johnson are almost a dime a dozen, but this one, about a young man who starts a bar/bat mitzvah party, is the real deal. It also proves that Cooper Raiff, who writes, directs and stars in the film, is someone to keep an eye on.
Macbeth’s tragedy
Yes, most people already know the story of Macbeth, the Scottish lord bent on ruling his country, but not everyone has seen it through the eyes of director Joel Coen. Shot entirely in black and white and starring Denzel Washington as Macbeth and Frances McDormand as his powerful wife, the film was nominated for three Oscars and put a very new spin on a classic Shakespearean tale.
The Black and the Blues by Louis Armstrong
Above all, Louis Armstrong is known as one of the most famous jazz musicians of all time. But he was also a figure in the fight for equality in the United States, albeit a complicated one. As director Sacha Jenkins illustrates in this documentary, while Armstrong broke racial barriers in entertainment, he also faced accusations that he wasn’t as championing civil rights as other artists of his day. Jenkins had access to dozens of photographs, clippings and even recordings that Armstrong made of his own conversations for this documentary, and that access provides a far more complete picture of the legendary musician than the world has ever had.

One of the most popular video games of all time, tetris was a phenomenon for Nintendo Game Boy owners in the 1980s. But tetris (the movie) is the story of the people who created the game and brought it from the then Soviet Union to the rest of the world. Part historical drama, part spy movie, the movie doesn’t always hit the mark, but if you’ve never heard the story of how tetris Came out from behind the Iron Curtain, well worth seeing.

Swindler is a neo-noir thriller starring Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan and Justice Smith.

raised causeway It came and went when it was released in 2022, but that’s also the kind of movie it is. Centering on a soldier (Jennifer Lawrence) returning home after suffering a brain injury in Afghanistan, director Lila Neugebauer’s film is about trauma and how people lean on each other to get through it. A worthy watch for times when you have your own stuff to work with.

Sidney Poitier died in 2022, the same year Apple TV+ released this documentary looking at the actor’s long career:In the heat of the night, Guess who’s coming to dinner—and the impact on American culture and politics. With interviews ranging from Spike Lee and Morgan Freeman to Harry Belafonte, the film looks beyond his time in Hollywood, beginning with his upbringing in the Bahamas and ending with his enormous impact on the civil rights movement and elsewhere.
