Nowon, New York
At this East Village “Pocha” (Korean gastropub), the $21 cheeseburgers have earned legendary status. Chef and owner Jae Lee pairs two beef burgers with kimchi, American cheese, pickles, onions and “special kimchi sauce”: Equally tempting are the numerous craft beers, cocktails and sojus. 300 grams, Melbourne
The inspiration for this Melbourne burger chain is a McDonald’s Big Mac; The difference is that the 300 gram burgers are prepared fresh to order. Founder Joe Farah’s burgers are crispy and flavorful, and made with free-range, hormone-free beef. But the highlight is the hot sauce. 300grams.com.au
Supra Burger, London
Supra, a new pop-up in collaboration with Cocotte Queen’s Park, offers five different burgers, including the classic Spicy BBQ Truffle Cheeseburger, as well as fries, chicken tenders and coleslaw remoulade. Dumbo, Paris
Dumbo’s two locations (Pigalle and Petites Écuries) are easy to miss: both stores have minimal signage and the interiors are whitewashed. The burgers only have five or six ingredients each. Choose from two burgers (dry-aged beef or vegetarian) and there will be a side (fries, of course). www.dumboparis.com
Honbo, Hong Kong and Singapore
What started as a small burger joint in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, has grown into four stores spread across three Asian regions. Honbo imports its Double Gold beef from Wisconsin, USA, and the eight options are smashed – opt for the four-patty “Honbo 2.0” if you dare. honbo.com
