he US royal ambassador to London, Jane D. Hartley, invited the fake from hit Netflix drama The Diplomat to her Winfield House in Regent’s Park last night. On the show, Keri Russell plays an ambassador trying to prevent war in the Middle East, with Rufus Sewell as her husband.
Hartley says that the show is unrealistic, as “I wear my own clothes”, and he doesn’t cast them. But former ambassador Matthew Barzun tells the New York Times that “informality” is correct, but “people dying” is not.
Vagina museum seeks money for new headquarters
The Vagina Museum has found a new home after it was evicted from its last home earlier this year. But staff say they have to raise £85,000 by early June to secure the new property, a pair of railway arches in east London.
The museum says it’s a “now or never” fight to reopen and has raised £42,000 so far. “This pair of railway arches met all our needs,” one of the museum’s managers, Zoe Williams, told us, “and it’s in a great area not too far from our old home in Bethnal Green.”
The museum, which describes itself as “the world’s first brick-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas,” opened in 2017 and has taken up numerous venues. She was evicted from her last residence, an estate conservatorship, in March of this year. If the new site is secured, the museum hopes to reopen in late summer.
Truss: an important woman?
Blink and you’ll miss it. Prime Minister Liz Truss has hit out at Rishi Sunak in a speech in Taiwan, saying that during her time in government “Treasury was reluctant to take a hard line on China.” Sunak was chancellor for more than two years. Truss also told Taiwanese audience of her that she was visiting saying, “I think this is the most important place in the world.” The other reason, of course, is that she’s not very busy at the moment.
Archer says conservatives are fried
Former Tory Vice President and best-selling author Jeffrey Archer believes the party is coming out of number 10, like it was in the 1990s. “We had been in power for 17 years when the public got tired of us,” he says. “There’s a little bit of that in the air.” Archer predicts a 30-seat Labor majority, but not thanks to his leader. “The general opinion in Britain is that Keir Starmer is not the most exciting person in the world,” he says dismissively.
