The title of Small Business of the Year from the Fantastic Five competition

Five of the world’s best small businesses are competing for a coveted award at the Tees Business Awards 2024.

The Small Tee Company of the Year category has proven to be very close, such is the wealth of talent that our region’s smaller operators bring to the table.

But while the five finalists may be relatively small, they are all beautifully built and holding their own in the business world.

That’s why they have come this far in a category sponsored and shortlisted by Tees Valley Combined Authority and Tees Valley Business Board.

Last year’s winner, Elemy, is back in the running, along with four equally worthy finalists.

The winner will be one of 12 awards revealed on the big night, Thursday 18 April, when the second annual Tees Business Awards take place in the Coleman Suite at Hardwick Hall.

Up to 400 people are expected to attend the impressive gala ceremony, organized by business t-shirts in partnership with global games developer Double Eleven, based in Middlesbrough.

But who are the five finalists who prove that size doesn’t necessarily matter when it comes to being brilliant in business?

sorrel (thorny)

Established over 30 years ago, Aceda provides network infrastructure, electronic security solutions and E&I services across various market sectors including universities, NHS authorities and public service providers.

Key successes in 2023 include relocating the business from Stokesley to a new office in Thornaby, upgrading its bespoke CRM system, securing two major new security maintenance contracts and a place in a major national public sector framework , and the record of significant growth in billing.

Duration (Middlesbrough)

A critical energy specialist with over 10 years’ experience, Durata has established strong relationships with blue-chip clients in a competitive industry and regularly attracts visitors from around the world to Teesside.

But not only has it achieved and grown its turnover targets, delivered projects for high-profile clients and opened a base in Frankfurt, it continues to employ local people, raise thousands of pounds for local good causes and promote diversity and inclusion in the industry.

elemy (Warrenby)

Last year, Elemy invested heavily in its Warrenby site, providing new machinery, equipment and office space, creating more jobs and enabling the company to offer more complex manufacturing and enter new markets.

It also has an accredited quality management system, essential for working on large scale projects with national contractors, and has further developed its reputation locally, with a large percentage of new accounts with companies in the North East. Revenue has also increased.

Solutions for event glasses (Middlesbrough)

Middlesbrough-based ECS, the UK market leader in the supply of sustainable reusable packaging for sports stadiums, music venues and festivals, now has four regional washing centres, each capable of washing 750,000 glasses per week for customers. , including several Premier League football clubs.

Its healthy profits are reinvested in infrastructure, providing a solid platform for further growth, and while its off-season workforce of 24 increases to 75 in the summer, it anticipates doubling those numbers in 2024.

Hogg Global Logistics (Hartlepool)

Having survived as a start-up through the turmoil of Brexit and Covid, international freight forwarding company Hogg Global Logistics continues to record rising turnover and profits, as well as striving for excellence in an ever-changing industry. .
