Voyeur Trevor Clowes has been jailed after filming a woman bathing. The 40-year-old man, who was socially isolated, recorded the woman bathing for about 30 seconds on his phone.
When she realized what was happening, the woman jumped up, screamed, and challenged Clowes. She punched him, grabbed the phone, and dropped it.
He called his partner, who returned and took the phone and also seized Clowes’ other devices. They were analyzed by police and found to contain dozens of indecent images of children and two extreme pornographic images. Now Clowes has been jailed for six months in Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Ben Lawrence said a man moved into a house in north Staffordshire in July 2020. The property had a communal bathroom.
Lawrence said: “He had been warned by others that the defendant was strange. His partner stayed with him for several nights but never met the defendant.”
“She was there on July 18, 2020 and her partner went out and ran into a friend. While he was away she decided to take a bath. She closed, but she didn’t lock, the door.
“A shadow kept appearing against the bathroom door. He saw something peeking through the door.
“He put his phone just inside the door to record her naked taking a shower. Realizing she was being recorded, he jumped up and screamed.”
“She asked him what he was doing and he smiled at her. She called her partner to tell them what was happening. She ran out and took the phone from Clowes.
“He chased her to get her phone back. He grabbed her. She threw the phone out the window. She threw a glass at the wall. He smiled. She punched him in the face.”
“His partner returned. He was alone in a towel. The partner grabbed Clowes.”
He grabbed the phone and when Clowes provided the PIN number, he agreed. She showed a photo of her partner and photos of women on the street.
Lawrence said: “He entered the defendant’s room and seized his other electrical devices. Police attended and the man handed them over to him.”
“The police saw the images. She had recorded her for 30 seconds naked in the bathroom, singing and bathing.
“Their digital devices were examined. There were indecent images of children and extreme pornographic images were found.”
There were six images in category A; 24 category B films; 44 accessible still images and 10 inaccessible images in category C; 12 category C movies and two extreme pornographic images.
Lawrence said: “They all appeared to be women, as young as seven years old.”
In a statement, the victim said she felt dirty and violated. It took her 12 months to get over the incident and she walked away from Leek to start over.
Clowes, of Picton Street, Leek, pleaded guilty to voyeurism; three counts of making indecent images of children and possession of extreme pornography.
Anis Ali, mitigating, said Clowes has made significant efforts to change his ways. He moved off the property.
He said that the voyeurism was not planned but was more opportunistic. Ali said: “He accepts that it was to give him sexual satisfaction. He has lived a lonely and isolated life. He has not been involved in any intimate relationships. He has no family or friends to occupy his time.”
“He regrets his behavior. The regret is genuine. He is rightly ashamed and embarrassed about his conduct and is making efforts to prevent a situation like this from arising again.”
“He is interested in emphasizing that he has not engaged in any Internet activity since his devices were taken from him.
“At that time I lived in an isolated environment. Curiosity got the better of him and the situation got out of hand.
“He has changed his ways.”
Ali said Clowes’ mother is receiving end-of-life care and doesn’t have long to live.
Judge Paul Glenn said: “It was blatantly obvious that she was taking a shower and you made the decision to observe her and record her on your phone.”
“She had the courage and presence of mind to defy you, to call her boyfriend and take your phone. At that moment you realized you were in trouble. You chased after her and grabbed her to get the phone back. You were in a panic. She he tossed the phone to prevent me from getting it and administered what some might say a degree of summary justice.
“Her boyfriend came back. She was hysterical.
“The police were called. You were arrested. Indecent images were found on your devices. These are real children who are being abused and likely irreparably harmed and people like you who obtain and view the images encourage that abuse.
“You accept now that you got some sexual gratification.”
The judge ordered the confiscation and destruction of the computer, tablet, and phones.
Clowes was the subject of a seven-year sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offender register for the same period.
He was prohibited from participating in a variety of activities involving children and vulnerable adults.
