Thieves broke into a resale store in Old Town Spring and allegedly stole $50,000 worth of designer handbags.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — For the second time in a year, thieves broke into a resale store in Old Town Spring and stole $50,000 worth of designer handbags.

The latest robbery at JJ’s Closet occurred on October 7 around 5 am.

The store owners shared several surveillance videos. One shows the beginning of the robbery with an arm reaching out from a hole in the wall to grab a Prada bag.

Once inside, the thief crawls in and grabs everything he can reach before passing bag after bag through the hole to his friends outside.

“They came in the back of the building and ripped off the siding,” one homeowner told ABC13. “He probably used hammers and broke up the studs and dry walls and made a 4×4 square and went through the area.”

It was not the first time the small business had been robbed. The criminals broke shop windows and worked quickly in November 2023. They then also stole goods worth around $50,000.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, they have been following a lead. On Friday night, authorities shared a photo of the suspect’s vehicle, which appears to be a black Ford Expedition.

The owner says the same people may be involved in both. For fear of reprisals, he asked to remain anonymous. He’s frustrated.

“At this point, justice hasn’t been served. This guy hasn’t paid any fines for stealing from us the first time. So why not do it the second time? And at this point, we’re wondering if he’ll do it a third time.” said the man, who owns the store with his wife.

After the first robbery, they added a dozen more cameras, motion detectors, more alarms and burglar bars. You have now reinforced the back wall. Hope it’s enough.

“It seems like every time these guys do something, we take a step to protect ourselves. Then they come up with another way in. That’s always in the back of our minds when we go to sleep at night,” he said.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
