Temporary workers were asked: “What advice would you give a new temporary worker on their first assignment? What common mistakes should they avoid? What should they focus on to be successful?” The question was open ended so the staff could offer any advice. More than 2,000 internal employees responded to this question. Results from a random subset of these responses were analyzed to identify patterns, revealing ten broad recommendations.
- Establish good two-way communication with your recruiter
- Communicate often with your manager and get to know your team
- Be clear about expectations, reporting, pay/benefits, policies
- Take the first day/orientation very seriously
- Do not compromise ethics and report unacceptable situations.
- Don’t become too financially dependent, it’s a temporary job
