Tyneside mum says ADHD is a ‘strength’ that helps drive her award-winning small business

Jen Fowler said she had learned to see how living with ADHD had helped her, rather than holding her back.

TO Newcastle woman is celebrating how her ADHD has helped her set up an award-winning small business – and she’s determined her brand will help reflect others who don’t see themselves catered for. Jen Fowler, 37, of Brunswick Village, founded Rebel Wax Co about a year ago.

Fed up with seeing fragrances marketed under cloyingly sweet brands, I wanted to create something with a more alternative feel. And she has also spoken out about how the skills she’s gained through living with an ADHD diagnosis had come in handy – something she feels is vital to remember in a world where neurodiversity can be stigmatised and seen as a negative.

As for the award itself, she said creating something that really “connects” with customers was something she was proud of. She said: “I’m building a brand and community for people who don’t see themselves reflected in traditional home fragrance brands. Not to mention my products smell lush!”
