Villagers attacked the police who went to nab a criminal in tribal-dominated Mandwa area of Udaipur district on Thursday evening. During this, more than two dozen villagers pelted stones at the policemen and also attacked them with knives while fleeing. The Udaipur police had gone to nab the history-sheeter of the Rania gang. Among the injured, six people including SHO Uttam Singh constable Manoj were injured. Five people, including the SHO, have been admitted to MB Hospital, where constable Manoj’s condition is stated to be critical.
Udaipur Range IG Ajay Pal Lamba also reached MB Hospital in Udaipur along with SP Vikas Sharma as soon as he got information about the incident and met the injured.
IG Ajay Pal Lamba told that SHO Uttam Singh Rania had gone to a village to catch the history-sheeter crook of the gang. The police had received information through an informer, due to which the police had reached the village.

When the police reached the miscreant’s house, the relatives surrounded the police from all sides and snatched other weapons including rifle and pistol. During this, the villagers surrounded the police and chased away the history-sheeter. The villagers beat up the police team. Policemen have suffered injuries from knives and sticks. In fact, in the case of robbery in Mandwa police station area, information was received about the wanted criminals coming to the houses built on the slopes of the mountain in the area. Seeing the police, the relatives of the accused pelted stones, which led to a stampede. Meanwhile, the accused attacked with knives, sticks and also fired several times. Seven policemen, including an SHO, were injured in the attack by the accused. He told that after the policemen were injured, the accused snatched an SLR rifle and a pistol and both the weapons are missing.
