A 20-year-old man has been charged with conducting hostile activity in the UK to benefit Russia, according to the Crown Prosecution Service, which said four others had also been charged in connection with the case.

After specific reporting restrictions on the investigation were lifted, Nick Price, head of the CPS special crime and counter terrorism division, alleged that the man from Leicestershire had targeted businesses linked to Ukraine “in order to benefit the Russian state”.

“Included in the alleged activity was involvement in the planning of an arson attack on a Ukrainian-linked commercial property in March 2024,” he said.

Three other men have been charged with aggravated arson in connection with this case, one of whom had allegedly agreed to “accept a material benefit from a foreign intelligence service”.

A fifth man has been charged with having information about terrorist acts, the CPS said.
