The prize competition is part of the UK Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) program to develop new technologies and processes. The aim of this competition is to explore the benefit of using quantum technologies in various areas of interest to the UK government and to accelerate the adoption of quantum solutions by the public sector for the public benefit. The competition is divided into two phases. Phase 1, which will last 3 months, will award prizes of up to £120,000 ($148,000 USD), including VAT, and has a total budget of £2 million ($2.4 million USD) for all selected projects. After Phase 1, the UK government will assess the results and invite some of them to proceed to Phase 2. Phase 2 will last up to 15 months, funding each project for between £1 million and £2.5 million. million ($1.2M to $3M USD), VAT included. The total combined budget for all projects in Phase 2 is £13 million (US$16 million). Applications to participate in the program will start being accepted on May 29, 2023 and the application period will close on June 27, 2023 at 11am UK time.
