Unveiling the Secrets of Taste: Interior Designer Rodolphe Parente Shares Jaw-Dropping Tips!

My personal style is represented by my signature black uniform of Acne Studios jeans and an Ami Paris hoodie. However, I like to add some pops of color to my outfit, such as a purple and green Isabel Marant jacket and silver Le Gramme bracelets. My style reflects my design aesthetic, as I enjoy mixing and matching different technical pieces and accessories to create a sense of tension.

One of my recent favorite purchases is an ethereal painting by Xie Lei, a contemporary Chinese artist, from the Semiose gallery in Paris. It has a spooky and unique style and color that I adore. Pantelleria in Sicily holds a special place in my heart. I have been spending my summers there for the past seven years and now have a home there. The island’s volcanic nature, deep blue waters, and incredible light captivate me. Despite not being from Pantelleria, I feel a strong connection to the island due to my mixed French-Italian heritage.

A cherished memory I brought back from the Olympia in Paris is a box of matches from Juliette Armanet’s concert. We shared a magical moment there, and it holds a special place in my heart. The best book I’ve read in the past year is “The People of Bilbao Are Born Where They Want” by Maria Larrea, a French screenwriter. It’s a semi-autobiographical novel that delves into deep family secrets and captivating stories.

My style icon is the late French interior designer Andrée Putman, whom I had the opportunity to work with early in my career. She has been an inspiration to me, especially with her work on the Morgan Hotel in New York. One of the best gifts I recently gave was a vintage lacquer and gold Cartier lighter to someone very close to me. I appreciate its simple beauty and the old-fashioned ritual behind it.

When it comes to music, I need a six-hour playlist to work. It allows me to stay focused and in the creative zone. The best gift I have received is a road trip to Pozas, the surrealist garden of Edward James in Mexico. It was a thoughtful gift from a friend, and we had an incredible adventure exploring the dream-like sculptures and foliage in the middle of the jungle.

“The Beach” by Miss Kittin is the latest song I downloaded. I love its nostalgic 2000s vibe and the combination of a French narrative voice over a hard beat. It energizes me while I work. I don’t collect anything specifically as I don’t like the idea of accumulation or focusing on a single element. However, I recently discovered the furniture collection designed by Swiss designer Beat Frank for Le Corbusier’s Convent of La Tourette, and I find it breathtaking.

In my fridge, you will always find capers, ricotta salata, tomatoes, and bottles of Château La Martinette’s Reflets d’Argens rosé. These ingredients allow me to create a variety of dishes, with spaghetti all’arrabbiata being my favorite. Simple dishes can be challenging to cook, but the secret lies in taking the time to properly cook the tomato sauce.

The most recent addition to my wardrobe is a pair of Salomon XT-6 Trainers in fluorescent orange, dark red, and black. They are comfortable and versatile, pairing well with a Loro Piana jacket or a black hoodie. An object I would never part with is my stainless steel and mesh Caran d’Ache pen. I have had it for 15 years, and it is essential for my work, drawing, and writing.

One of my favorite apps is Co-Star, an astrology application. It started as a joke in the studio, but now we all use it to connect and chat. It’s a fun way to see if we are compatible or if it’s a good day astrologically. If I could collect the work of any artist, it would be Félix González-Torres, a Cuban-American conceptual artist. His ability to convey deep emotions with minimalistic elements amazes me.

When it comes to skincare essentials, I never go without my perfumes. I enjoy layering different scents every day, such as Geranium Pour Monsieur by Frédéric Malle with Helmut Lang Eau de Parfum or Grand Soir by Maison Francis Kurkdjian with Beach Walk by Margiela House. It allows me to create my own unique scent combination.

My favorite room in my house is undoubtedly the kitchen. I spend most of my time there, either cooking with friends or enjoying an aperitif. It’s a composite stainless steel kitchen with pink lacquer cupboards and an original fireplace. Additionally, I have a hidden minibar that opens up like an installation by Yayoi Kusama, adding a touch of magic to the space.

Some works of art that have had a profound impact on me are by James Turrell. The way he utilizes space and color in his installations is truly mesmerizing. Additionally, the 7132 Thermal Baths in Switzerland, designed by Peter Zumthor, is my favorite building. It stands as a disconnected and timeless block of Pierre de Vals, immersing you in the landscape and the play of light.

The last thing I bought and liked was an ethereal painting by Xie Lei, a contemporary Chinese artist, from the Semiose gallery in Paris. It’s very spooky in its sense of style and color, and quite unique.

The place that means a lot to me is Pantelleria in Sicily, the Black Pearl of the Mediterranean. I am completely in love with it. It is about 70km from the Tunisian coast, visible from the island, and very wild. The island is volcanic, the water is deep blue and the light is amazing. I’ve spent all my summers there for the past seven years and now have a home there. I’m half French and half Italian, and even though I’m not from Pantelleria, I feel my roots there.

And the best memory I brought home is a box of matches from Juliette Armanet’s performance at the Olympia in Paris. She is a French singer and her latest album is called Burn the Fire [Burn the Fire], which explains the matches. I shared a magical moment there with a close friend, so it’s a memory that is close to my heart.

The best gift I’ve given recently is vintage lacquer and gold cartier lighter, to someone very close. I love its spirit: a simple object, with many details to admire and an old-fashioned ritual behind it.

And the best gift I’ve received is a road trip to Pozas, the surrealist garden of Edward James in Mexico, imagined by a friend. James was an English poet and patron of the Surrealist movement – he was friends with Dalí, Picasso and Magritte. At the end of the 1940s, he decided to create this dream garden, filled with huge concrete sculptures and extravagant foliage, in the middle of the jungle. It took us 12 hours by car from Mexico City, but we spent about a day there.

The last music I downloaded was “The Beach” by Miss Kittin, which is very 2000s in spirit. I love a French narrative voice over a hard beat – it feels like you’re on the dance floor! I listen to it while I work.

I don’t collect anything; I don’t like the idea of accumulation or focusing on a single element. I like the idea of wanting something, but sometimes I find it’s better not to have it.

I recently discovered the work of Swiss designer Beat Frank, who designed an incredible collection of furniture for Le Corbusier Convent of La Tourette in 1994. It’s breathtaking: a table and chairs with ultra-pure shapes that explore the specificities of the building. The idea was to go straight to the point. I discovered it at the Galerie Romain Morandi in Paris.

In my fridge you will always find capers, ricotta salata, tomatoes and bottles of Château La Martinette Reflets d’Argens rosé. You can do anything with this selection in your fridge; it’s the perfect combination of ingredients.

The thing I couldn’t live without it’s the music. I need a six-hour playlist to work on: I don’t want to change music after a track. I like diversity and I receive a selection of vinyls every month. The last ones I got was D’Angelo’s album black messiah and “Figurine,” a song by future soul artist Wayne Snow. It is very important for me ; maybe I’m afraid of the void.

The indulgences I would never give up are olive oil – from Pantelleria, of course – and caramelized garlic cloves, the staple of the cuisine. My favorite dish is spaghetti all’arrabbiata, but simple things are hard to cook. The secret of a good tomato sauce lies in the time it takes to cook it; it takes time to do something simple.

The last item I added to my wardrobe was a pair of Salomon XT-6 Trainers in fluorescent orange, dark red and black. They are so comfortable and easy to wear – perfect with a Loro Piana jacket or a black hoodie. £160

An object that I would never part with is made of stainless steel and mesh Caran d’Ache pen that I have had for 15 years. I need it for working, drawing and writing. It’s like jewelry for my office.

My favorite app East co-star, an astrology application. At first it was a joke in the studio: now we are all connected. You can see if you are compatible or not, or if it is a good day or not. It’s a fun way to hang out, connect and chat.

The only artist whose work I would collect if I could is Félix González-Torres, the Cuban-American conceptual artist. He said many things with few things – his curtain of red beads at the Punta della Dogana in Venice, his birds. His work is moving and strong – maybe too strong for me – but I would love to have a collection of it.

My favorite room in my house It’s of course the kitchen, where I spend most of my time, cooking with friends or having an aperitif. It is a composite stainless steel kitchen, with pink lacquer cupboards and an original fireplace. I also have a hidden minibar, super magical: you open the door of an old cupboard to find a bar entirely made of a pink mirror material. It’s like an installation of Yayoi Kusama.

The works of art that changed everything for me were by James Turrell, who I discovered in art school. It was an amazing shock to see the way he uses space and color. I didn’t know if it was an art installation or an architecture.

My favorite building East 7132 Thermal baths in Switzerland, a hotel and spa designed by Peter Zumthor. It looks like a huge block of Pierre de Vals, completely disconnected and out of time. You feel the landscape; you feel the lights. Go away for a long weekend – you’ll be a different person.

The best advice I’ve ever received It was “not to dare, it is to have already lost”, said Andrée Putman. It’s a way of giving you energy to try things.
