For the first time, BJP has given such a large number of tickets to the Muslim community, in which about 350 Muslim candidates have been fielded by the BJP. In these, the candidate for the councilor in the municipal corporation, the candidate for the chairman in the municipality, and the candidate for the councilor in the municipality, who have entered the election field on the symbol of the party, are also included.
Keeping an eye on Pasmanda Muslim society
In fact, the focus of the ruling party is now on the Pasmanda Muslim community because the BJP has set a target of Mission 80 for 2024 in UP and the support of the Pasmanda Muslims is necessary to fulfill it. That is why this time in the local body elections also, BJP has given tickets to the minority community with open heart. On the other hand, politically, the party is not shying away from the fact that the BJP is trying to unite the backward Muslims by clearing the allegation that the opposition used to ignore the Muslims in these elections.

BJP has been continuously engaged in the exercise of connecting Pasmanda Muslims for the past several months, for which the first Pasmanda Samvad Sammelan, Urdu version of PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat, Iftari on the occasion of Eid and interacting with the beneficiaries in Muslim-dominated areas. The exercise of joining is already going on, but in the exercise of removing the tag of the party which ignores the Muslims, this time BJP is challenging the opposition by giving 350 tickets in the civic elections, whose direct impact is being seen on the local equations.
Now the special thing is that this has happened for the first time in an urban election when BJP has fielded around 350 Muslim candidates, including Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Jhansi, Agra, Firozabad and Mathura Municipal Corporation. While BJP has given corporator tickets to Muslim candidates in 4 wards in Varanasi Municipal Corporation, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s constituency Gorakhpur, corporator tickets have been given to the people of Muslim community. Apart from Lucknow, in Jhansi, Agra, Firozabad and Mathura Municipal Corporation also BJP has fielded minority community candidates for the post of corporator this time.
On BJP’s politics of giving Muslim tickets, UP Minority Welfare Minister Danish Azad Ansari said in a conversation with Aaj Tak that for the first time the party has given councilor and nagar panchayat member tickets to about 300 Muslims ranging from Pasmanda Muslims to every backward community. The party believes that political participation will have to be given to bring Muslims into the mainstream and this decision was already taken. Samajwadi Party only used Muslims for votes and their politics revolved around only one face but BJP along with being beneficiary has now given them a chance to share in power which was never there before.
Muslim candidates on 11 out of 17 municipal corporations
And this time in the municipal elections, the BSP has fielded Muslim candidates for the post of mayor in 11 out of 17 municipal corporations, in such a situation, the BJP has also declared about 250 Muslim candidates in the first phase of the civic elections, while the Samajwadi Party is also nowhere in sight. Somewhere the Muslim vote is on the bank and that is why the party is continuously fielding Muslim candidates, but the BJP is clearly saying that other parties only do the work of intimidating them, while the BJP has worked to take the minority society forward. The effect of which has also been seen in the previous election results of the party.
On the other hand, if we talk about Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats, in Firozabad Nagar Panchayat, in Lucknow Nagar Panchayats, in Amethi Nagar Panchayat, in Rampur, in Moradabad Mandal, in Amroha, BJP this time along with Nagar Palika President and Nagar Panchayat President there The tickets of the MPs have also been given to the Muslim community, which is trying to break the hopes of the Muslim vote bank of SP and BSP this time.
SP called BJP’s experiment a political gimmick
SP has termed this experiment of BJP as a political gimmick. SP Spokesperson Ameek Jamai said on Muslim ticket that BJP can do anything for votes, whether it is to give councilor’s ticket to Muslims or the Prime Minister’s visit to church, the whole country knows that minorities are in the most fear at this time. Harassing Muslims, killing them in riots and planting riots and burning unity in Ram Navami is BJP’s work, giving ticket to councilors is just an excuse to get BJP to do its politics.
However, the party is looking at the exercise of giving tickets to backward Muslims as a political experiment before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, because before this neither the assembly nor the Lok Sabha elections, the party has given ticket to any Muslim candidate, but if Out of these 350 candidates, if the party registers victory in most of the areas, then the possibilities will increase that the party can remove the Muslim face in Uttar Pradesh for the first time in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well. However, both time and equation are still awaited in this experiment.
