Columbus, Ohio (WCMH) — A networking event dedicated to women’s health on Thursday kicked off a series of summer health-related events in Columbus.
Uplift Her allowed women from central Ohio to connect, empower and network Thursday while sipping their coffee and hugging other local women. Many attendees shared everything from professional advice to health advice, including Autumn Glover, who highlighted the importance of the event.
“We need this event because it’s time for us to get focused and serious about our overall health,” said Glover, And Health’s vice president of community partnerships. “We will not be here for our children and our families if we are not serious about focusing on our health.”
Research shows that women of color are at higher risk for diseases such as breast cancer and cardiovascular disease. Karlena Wallace, director of communications for the National Center for Urban Solutions, said her goal is to save lives.
“We want women to really take control of their health and really understand how to live healthier and just be here and have a longer life expectancy,” Wallace said.
Uplift Her has a separate Wellness Day for June 22 from 3-8 pm Learn more and register for that event by clicking here.
