Events to look out for in North America on Friday include US jobs figures plus earnings from Delta Air Lines, Walgreens Boots Alliance and Constellation Brands.
Jobs: Economists expect that the US economy added 160,000 jobs in December, down from 227,000 in November. The unemployment rate is expected to hold steady at 4.2 per cent.
US consumer sentiment: The University of Michigan will release the preliminary reading of its consumer sentiment index for January, which economists forecast to have fallen to 73.8, from 74.0 in December.
Earnings: Atlanta-headquartered carrier Delta Air Lines is expected to report a 3.8 per cent year-on-year jump in fourth-quarter revenues, to $14.2bn, when it posts earnings before the opening bell. Elsewhere, investors will be keen to hear any updates on Walgreens Boots Alliance’s potential sale to private equity firm Sycamore Partners when the US pharmacy chain posts results this morning. Constellation Brands, maker of Modelo, the top-selling beer in the US, will also announce earnings.
