Wrestlers’ strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar continues for the seventh day. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also reached to meet the wrestlers on Saturday morning. Priyanka Gandhi talked to Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Poonia alone for a long time and listened to their problems. On Friday itself, AAP leaders Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj had also met the players.
FIR registered against Brijbhushan
Earlier, the Delhi Police on Friday registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in connection with the allegations of sexual harassment leveled by female wrestlers. On the basis of complaints received from women wrestlers, serious allegations have been made in two FIRs registered at Connaught Place police station. The first FIR pertains to allegations made by a minor, to which relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code have been added under the Prevention of Child Sexual Exploitation (POCSO) Act.
A police officer said that the second FIR has been lodged by the adult complainants under relevant sections of the IPC.
What is POCSO Act?
1-Poxo means Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. This law was brought in 2012. It makes sexual abuse against children a crime.
2- This law applies to both boys and girls below the age of 18 years. Its purpose is to protect children from crimes related to sexual harassment and obscenity.
3- Under this law, people below the age of 18 years have been considered as children and provision of severe punishment has been made for crimes against children.
4- Earlier there was no death penalty in the POCSO law, but in 2019 it was amended to make a provision for death penalty as well.
5- If life sentence has been given under this law, then the convict will have to spend the rest of his life in jail. This means that the convict cannot come out alive from the jail.
Poonia said – the strike will continue till justice is done
On registering an FIR against Brij Bhushan Singh, wrestler Bajrang Punia said, ‘The police said that if you want to protest then sleep on the road. What kind of pressure has come on them today, there was no such problem earlier, this FIR has happened only because of the pressure of the Supreme Court. We had ordered some goods but they (police) are not allowing us to bring them here and are thrashing and driving away those who bring the goods. Till justice is not met, we will protest, no matter how much the police administration tortures us.

7 women officers of Delhi Police have been put in the investigation. 7 women will report to 1 ACP and then ACP will report to DCP. About 10 inspectors of New Delhi district were called to the police station to register the FIR..after which 2 FIRs have been registered.
