They say when you love something, you should let it go—but we all know that philosophy doesn’t apply to television shows. ICYMI, Queen Charlotte, the highly-anticipated Bridgerton spin-off series, hit Netflix this weekend and if you’ve already grazed through the six-episode delight, you’re probably wondering when you’ll get more (same).

For those unfamiliar with the series (you should definitely go watch immediately), allow me to provide some brief insight: The limited series tells the origin story of two beloved characters—Queen Charlotte and King George—from another much-talked-about Netflix show, Bridgerton. And while the flagship series is between seasons ATM, Queen Charlotte gave fans a much-needed dose of the sexy period piece. Not to mention, it introduces new actors to the Bridger-verse like India Ria Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest (who play Queen Charlotte and King George, respectively).

With all the new tea and characters, Queen Charlotte could very well continue into a full-on series, but it’s not entirely clear if that will happen. Here are all the details on a (potential) Queen Charlotte Season 2:

Netflix hasn’t yet announced anything pertaining to a Season 2 for Queen Charlotte—but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not happening! Typically, the streaming platform waits a few weeks before announcing a potential follow-up. The series currently sits in Netflix’s top 10 list, so it could definitely get a second season.

It’s worth noting that the show is considered a “limited series,” which leaves little room for a Season 2 with the same characters, but it could turn into an anthology series, like HBO’s The White Lotus or Love Life.

Shonda Rhimes is down.

Shonda Rhimes, the brilliant mind behind Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, is the showrunner and creator of Queen Charlotte. And as an executive producer of Bridgerton, she took the spin-off on because she felt the story was “personal,” per Entertainment Weekly.

Originally, the screenwriter and producer planned for the series to be a one-off. “I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific, closed-ended story that I think is a complete tale of this complicated, imperfect love,” she told EW, per Deadline.

However, the queen of television acknowledged the potential for a Season 2, considering Queen Charlotte told such an abbreviated story of the royals’ backstory. “I’m not ruling anything out because I never know,” Shonda told EW.

There is another way to get your Queen Charlotte fix.

Okay, so if you’ve just finished Queen Charlotte and can’t possibly wait for a Season 2 announcement, let alone for Season 2 to be made, don’t fret: there’s something coming to tide you over.

Shonda Rhimes co-authored a Queen Charlotte book with Julia McQuinn, the novelist who wrote the books that inspired the original Bridgerton series—and it will hit shelves tomorrow, May 9 (but you can read an excerpt here), and tells the unabridged story of Queen Charlotte.

That was really fun for us both,” Shonda told EW of writing the novel. “I was so appreciative of every single new thing [Julia] added or something that we took away.”

There’s also, of course, Bridgerton itself. The series will return for third and fourth seasons, but it still isn’t exactly clear when they will premiere.

What would Season 2 of Queen Charlotte be about?

Since Shonda said the story of Charlotte and George was complete in the six episodes of Queen Charlotte, it seems their plot is done. But if a season 2 materializes, it will probably explore another character—or a different aspect of Queen Charlotte’s life.

Given that the series ends with Agatha and Violet meeting, that could very well be a jumping off point for a season 2. Only time will tell!

In the meantime, you can watch Queen Charlotte now on Netflix, or rewatch the first two seasons of Bridgerton.
