Work will begin later this year on a new housing development in Hornsea that will create nearly 200 more homes in the town, despite objections from nearby residents.
House builder Gleeson Homes says Mariner’s View, on Hornsea Burton Road, will also create local jobs. The 19.5 acre site, close to Longbeach Leisure Park, will be developed with a variety of two, three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached houses.
The show homes and the first plots for sale will go live in spring 2024. A total of 195 homes will be built after planning permission was granted by councilors last fall.

Gleeson’s original plan, submitted to the East Riding Council in December 2021, was for 206 homes to the east and south of the Hornsea Burton estate. The developer later revised this to 195 homes, although several residents near the site raised concerns about the development’s impact on local amenities and the environment.
At a council planning committee meeting in October, members heard concerns had been raised about the small percentage of properties marked for affordable housing and the limited number of bungalows included, given Hornsea’s aging population and the bungalows to be found shortly. supply.
Fears were also raised at the meeting about increased traffic on Hornsea Burton Road, even with its proposed extension, and about the ‘lack’ of facilities in the town, such as no bank, no NHS dental practice and only one GP practice. Headboard. Flooding and drainage problems were also raised.
The application was approved on the basis that it had the potential to develop Hornsea. The decision came shortly after another plan by Gleeson, to 199 low cost housing in Withernsea, was given the green light; the first properties are expected to be published this fall.
Wayne Sutton, Gleeson’s Regional Managing Director for Yorkshire East, said: “At Gleeson Homes, we’re passionate about providing high-quality, affordable housing for local people, whether they’re young people, first-time buyers, families or downsizers. We are delighted to have secured another fantastic site in Hornsea, where we can help hundreds more in need to climb the housing ladder.”
The properties will include plots with aerothermal heat pumps, electric vehicle charging points and chimneys, to ensure that the development fits with the characteristics of the local community. Gleeson said he expected to see interest from a mix of first-time buyers and “second movers.”
The homebuilder will contribute nearly £800,000 for local services, including £280,000 for education, £269,217 for outdoor sports facilities and £155,428 for a local playground. Gleeson is seeking local labor and subcontractors to work on the new development and said he would accept applications from local youth interested in joining his apprenticeship program.
Gleeson said he specialized in selling “quality, low-cost homes” and caters primarily to young, first-time buyers. He said his two-bedroom houses usually cost £102,995 and were all brick-built traditional with their own driveway and gardens. Visit gleesonhomes.co.uk for more information.
