Jake Paul defeated Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in their highly anticipated fight on Friday night and each fighter likely walked away with tens of millions of dollars.
But there may have been a big pay gap between the two.
At a Press conference on August 18th To promote the fight, Paul said, “I’m here to make $40 million and knock out a legend.” (He didn’t end up knocking out Tyson.)
Representatives for Paul did not immediately respond to a request for comment confirming his payout.
He already earned millions as… YouTuber when he turned to boxing, which now accounts for the majority of his earnings.
According to ForbesPaul, 27, was one of the highest-paid athletes in 2022 when he earned an estimated $45 million.
Meanwhile, neither Tyson nor the fight promoters have revealed what his salary would be, although some industry experts put it at around $20 million.
Representatives for Tyson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
In October, Tyson responded to Paul’s offer to pay him $5 million if the 58-year-old made it past the fourth round. If he hadn’t made it this far, Tyson would have had to get a tattoo that said “I love Jake Paul.”
“It should offer more” Tyson told USA Today. “Probably tell him about $20 (million).”
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of fight promoter Most Valuable Promotions, said CNBC that Tyson and Paul would each make eight figures.
The event itself, which was streamed further Netflixwas also lucrative. The fight, held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, grossed $17.8 million in ticket revenue, Most Valuable Promotions, a co-owner of Paul, also told CNBC. This makes it the richest boxing goal in history outside of Nevada.
Prices for tickets on resale sites ranged from $58 to $1,500, although a VIP ringside seat cost $2 million each. Organizers said all 375 of those spots were sold out.
