Missoula, Mont. – In the dozens of obituaries and taxes that have spilled since the death of David Lynch at 78 last week, one of his final projects has largely become without mentioning.
It was also a kind of full circle project for Missoula’s visionary.
There was no red carpet, it was not mentioned in IMDB and many of Lynch’s fans outside Montana may not have even seen it.
But during the third quarter of the Super Bowl in February 2024, some mounted were treated with Lynch’s return to their television screens such as the voice of a commercial for Paper & Press based in Missoula.
“Hello, I’m David Lynch, with a word on paper,” the commercial in black and white began.
The 30 -second place presented images of the store and its owners with a brief message from Lynch, while playing music that slightly remembers the main song of “Twin Peaks”, the successful television show of the 1990s that co -written and directed.
“It was an honor to have the voice of David Lynch in our commercial,” said Amy Dolan, who co -founded the store in 2008. “It is what the small business owner dreams, take advantage of these bigger platforms, and especially with these names bigger.
An intriguing message on Instagram
How did a couple of small businesses obtain a Hollywood legend talking about their small business in an announcement that is transmitted in local television markets during the Super Bowl superport, and for free, to start?
It all started with an intriguing message on Instagram in January 2024.
An MNTN representative, a company that builds advertising software, contacted the notable founders because it was looking for a small business to serve as a test case.
The company based in Austin co -founded by actor Ryan Reynolds wanted . .
MNTN landed in Missoula due to the high concentration of small businesses in the city, and in notification due to the attractive images of their personalized typographic services, as Dolan recalled.
“It was one of those opportunities where I nod, say yes and I hope it goes well,” he said.
Things occurred quickly once the notable founders agreed the project, and a creative team descended to Missula in a matter of days for commercial filming.
The same day the commercial filmed, the people of MNTN announced that they had found a renowned hometown connection, of which there are many to choose from, to make the voice off: Lynch.
A week after that first Instagram message, Noteworthy had its first commercial.
An ad that spoke with Lynch fans
While Dolan said that Lynch’s film and television credits are not his “favorite genre”, he had seen some episodes of “Twin Peaks” and was very aware of how loved fans and his Missula connection was.
Even so, the Novorthy brush with Hollywood’s fame has become a fun story to speak.
Lynch’s participation in the commercial has led some fun conversations in the year since it was broadcast for the first time, said Dolan, with people who enter the store to ask how everything joined.
“David Lynch’s fans were attracted to that,” he said.
The commercial probably resonated with fans due to the message that Lynch transmitted, to “rediscover the tangible” in a digital era of screens and pixels.
The filmmaker once regretted the “sadness” of the people who thought they had experienced watching a movie if they watched her on her phone. Lynch was a transcendental meditation practitioner for a long time.
He founded the David Lynch Foundation for education based on world conscience and peace in 2005.
Even if Dollan never met Lynch, he emphasized the honor that it was to have such a legendary voice telling the history of his small business in his first commercial.
Notable for remarkable
As for the MNTN test, Dolan said he was not sure there was a definitive conclusion of which AD worked better in the different media.
It does not matter, the announcement was remarkable by remarkable: there was an immediate increase in traffic to the company’s website in the days after Super Bowl, some of which translated into sales, while the business saw an increase in networks social as the announcement began to appear on transmission platforms in the weeks that followed.
“It helped us a lot in the greatest scheme of things,” said Dolan. “It was great how everything joined.”
