TV cook Fanny Cradock’s former home has come on the market for £5 million. Fanny, often described as the UK’s ‘first celebrity TV chef’, had 20 years of success on TV between the 1950s and 1970s.

The famous cook, who died in 1994 aged 85, would appear on camera cooking up a storm in various ballgowns with a cook’s apron.

The Grade-II listed six-bedroom property where Fanny lived and filmed from has now come up for sale.

Set on the outskirts of Grove Estate in Watford, Hertfordshire, Dower House features six bedrooms, four reception rooms, a cinema room.

It sits on a large plot of 2.46 acres of land, and features a huge garden, an annexe and a wine store.

Fanny presented her shows from the kitchen of her Georgian home, seen on several shows including BBC’s Fanny Cradock Cooks for Christmas.

She first rose to fame by trying to inspire the housewife, showing that cooking should feel enjoyable.

Dower House is up for gabs with estate agents Savills and Knight Frank, with a £5 million asking price.

Edward Welton, of Knight Frank, said: “The Dower House features beautiful riverside gardens with hundreds of bulbs planted by the current owner that provide vibrant colour in spring and summer.

“The home itself has been recently refurbished with well-designed living spaces and includes a studio annexe suitable for guests or staff.”

Hugh Maconochie, of Savills, added: “With ties to Fanny Cradock, it’s a unique family home in an outstanding setting.”
