The artisans and the owners of small businesses in the state of Kano have expressed concern about the persistent power cuts in the state, saying that the situation is to paralyze their operations.

Some of the affected residents who spoke on Sunday, May 18, 2025 said that the poor electricity supply was affecting productivity and increased operating costs.
Malam Idi Ali, a welder in the Kofar Ruwa area, said it spends an average of N5,000 daily fuel to feed its generator due to erratic electricity supply.
“We barely get energy for two hours in one day. I have lost customers because I can’t meet the deadlines. It is becoming unbearable,” he said.
Another owner of a business, Amina Rabiu, who directs a frozen food business in the Sabon Gari area, said it has incurred losses due to spoiled goods caused by the energy failure.
Stella Simon, a fashion designer in the Fagge area, said that the situation of power had become so bad that she had not been able to meet her clients’ demands for weeks.
“We have not had electricity for almost two days. I have to trust a generator.
“Bringing fuel to food is expensive due to the increase in the price of the fuel pump. I depended on electricity to preserve my stock.
“Now I use generators throughout the day and I still lose money. It’s frustrating,” he said.
Similarly, Abba Kabir, a tailor in the Dakata area, said the situation had forced him to reduce his workforce.
“I can’t keep paying workers when there is no power to execute my machines.
“We need an urgent intervention of the government or the electricity distribution company,” he said.
The efforts to obtain a response from the Kano Electricity Development Company (Kedco) corporate communications, Mr. Sani bullet, were not successful.
