Pirelli will unveil a new slick tire specification at the 2023 British Grand Prix at Silverstone – teams will test the tire during Friday practice at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The new tire spec introduces new materials planned for the 2024 Pirelli tire spec and deemed necessary by tire suppliers as current F1 cars are faster and generate more downforce than previously thought. Pirelli also expects more speed and downforce from current F1 cars as development continues throughout the season.
The new slick tires will see action at the 2023 British Grand Prix from June 7th to 9th, but teams will be able to test them out, with two additional sets available during FP1 and FP2 at the Spanish Grand Prix a week before the race in Silverstone to be delivered .
“We have seen in the opening races of this season how much more the 2023 cars have performed compared to last year and that is thanks to the exceptional pace of development from all ten teams,” began Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Mario Isola.

“In Miami, for example, the pole time was almost two seconds faster than last year, but the same progress was seen in the races. Pirelli’s simulation work has always aimed not only to deliver a product that meets the performance targets set by those involved, but also to anticipate potential problems and respond quickly to them.
“The new specification incorporates materials that we have already developed for 2024, which make the tires more resistant without affecting the other technical parameters or their behavior on the track. To allow all teams to test the new construction in the same conditions, Pirelli will supply two additional sets of tires per car to be used during FP1 and FP2 at the Spanish Grand Prix.”
