Too many small businesses fall through cracks when it comes to caring for mental well -being

In a new survey, he found that less than a quarter of SME business owners take a break from work on their vacation, while 39% think that the financial aspect of managing their business is affecting their mental health. Meanwhile, 57% of SMEs work 41-70 hours per week. As a result, the personal guarantee insurance service provider to small businesses says that SMEs should resort to professionals to obtain support.

His survey to the owners/managers of SMEs highlights how financial pressures, long hours of work and the inability to “disconnect” at home or on vacation are affecting the mental well -being of business owners. With this year’s theme for the awareness of the mental health focused on the community, Purbeck is encouraging the owners of SMEs to seek the support of mentors, friends and family.

Additional challenges

As SMEs throughout the United Kingdom face additional fiscal challenges established in the new financial year, younger businessmen are fighting more with 51% of those aged 25 to 34 who think that the financial aspect of managing their business has affected their mental health. It is also more common among female leaders to find difficult financial challenges, and 49% say they felt that they had affected their mental health compared to 35% of men.

Escaping on vacation is not an option for most of the owners/managers of the SME, according to the survey, with 76% admitting to work when they are on vacation. This increases to 82% among young people aged 25 to 35. Meanwhile, only 22% of business owners take a break from work while on vacation.

Fleeing from pressures

Despite the limited time available to take time for the pressures of operating a SME, watching television is the number one way to turn off when the opportunity arises. In a positive note, regular exercise, such as running or walking, is the following most popular way to relax. Socializing, then cooking are also popular ways of relaxing. Only 4% said they do not go out at all.

The Purbeck survey underlines the fact that managing its own business can be overwhelming.
