Future of Work Report Addresses Situation of Small Businesses in the Detroit Area
Detroit, city of the future released a report in May that examined the challenges and goals of small and micro businesses in the Detroit region. The report Thirty-seven percent of the respondents’ businesses were between one and three years old. It also highlighted the key challenges faced by local small businesses, including access to capital and managing the cost of capital.
Another recently published report was the Entrepreneurship Dashboard 2024 from the Michigan Small Business AssociationKey findings from the report show that while there has been an increase in small business formation and technology employment, the state faces declining labor force participation and widening income disparities with the national average.

The 33rd Annual Colors Concert Returns to Detroit and Pays Tribute to MC5
Detroit’s annual celebration of diversity and music, Concert of Colors, returns for its 33rd year July 16-21. The festivalKnown for its global cultural and musical exhibitions, it will take place at various locations around the city.
This year’s festivities are underscored by the theme of “Peace, Love and Understanding,” which reflects the festival’s commitment to fostering dialogue and harmony amid global conflicts and national challenges. The annual Don Was Detroit All-Star Revue, which joined the festival in 2008, includes a tribute to MC5in honor of the band’s deceased members and their influential legacy.
Founded with the mission of uniting Detroit’s diverse communities through music and the arts, the Concert of Colors has grown into the largest festival of its kind in the Midwest, drawing more than 30,000 attendees in recent years. Organized by Source of cultureA coalition of more than 170 arts organizations in southeast Michigan, the festival remains free, emphasizing accessibility and inclusion.
