URC Update Alert: Exciting Events Unfolding from 22nd June to 6th July!

The United Reformed Church (URC) has a myriad of upcoming events designed to engage its members and urge them to broaden their perspectives. The church’s mission to bring people together is furthered by these events’ diverse nature, ranging from resilience training to celebrating grandparenting and commemorating refugee week. These events foster a sense of community, help members recognize their roles in society, and encourage personal growth.

Exploring Resilience for Churches: URC Training

URC Training, a partnership between Children’s and Youth Work and Education and Learning, is hosting a three-part webinar series titled “Exploring Resilience for Churches.” The focus of these webinars is building resilience, both personally and as a community, to cope with change and ensure personal and spiritual growth. Here are the details of the sessions:

Self-care and resilience: The series’ initial session, led by Revd Dr. Adam Scott, will discuss personal resilience or self-care and what the term resilience means to individuals in a rapidly changing world.

Resilience and community care: The second session, again led by Dr. Scott, deals with community resilience or community care and how change can help everyone thrive.

Enabling resilience (making safe spaces): This practice-based session, facilitated by Revd Dr. Alex Clare-Young, a Pioneer Minister working at Downing Place Church in Cambridge City Center, will focus on practical ways churches can create safe spaces that encourage resilience and help people blossom.

Northern College in Manchester and Westminster College in Cambridge host two of the church’s three resource centers for learning and training opportunities. Interested individuals may register for the sessions on the provided link.

Glorious Grandparenting

From June 15-19, grandparents have an opportunity to participate in free online workshops designed to help enrich their relationships with children of all ages. The workshop also explores ways to share faith and overcome barriers while celebrating the challenges and blessings that come with grandparenting. The workshop will discuss everything from discipline to instilling values and how these affect the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. Participants can register via the link.

Refugee Week

Refugee Week is an annual event marking its 25th anniversary this year, promoting understanding and acceptance of refugees by celebrating the creativity, energy, and resilience of their cultures and crushing stereotypes associated with refugees. The charity invites people of all ages to celebrate what compassion looks like in action by participating in the event from 19-25 June. Resources for free workshops, and more information about the event and how to get involved, are available via the provided link.

Talking about…Resources

This webinar is set to occur on June 22 from 7-8 pm on Zoom. Richard Knott, the Children and Youth Development Officer for East Midlands Synod, will share his ideas on how to obtain the best resources for working with children and young people. The session is free, and registration is currently open via the link.

Summary

The United Reformed Church’s four events aim to engage members of its community, offering opportunities for growth, learning, and connection, as demonstrated by the workshops on resilience, grandparenting, and refugees, as well as the resources for working with children and young people. Each event focuses on distinct facets of life and encourages members to explore different perspectives, form new bonds, and use religious teachings to promote compassion, understanding, and social responsibility.
