“First flavor to spring” reads our cover, and my goodness, I’m hungry for it now. Banda in Woollens in recent months has been a bloody misery; I ended with the winds and heavens of a perpetual tone of gray. This problem reaches a transformation point: the sun is now tiptoe until night and the light bulbs begin to bloom. Our cover story was filmed in Athens By stylist Tony Irvine and photographer Olivier Kervern, and helps to establish further the mood of the season. My favorite fashion sessions are those I find transporting, weaving a story around clothes. This evokes a taste of Éric Rohmer and Paul Bowles in their elegant melancholy. Let’s look at the acropolis and dream with the next warmer days.

Mexican-American designer Willy Chavarria He has worked in the fashion industry for decades, but only established his homonym label in 2015. In later years, his reinvented Zoot costumes, Wry faces Streetwear and an expansive creed have made him an explosive presence in the fashion scene. His January program, “Tarantula”, sent a strong message about inclusion at a time when diversity, trans rights and immigration have become a blue touch paper for the United States ruling elite. However, instead of being intimidated by the changing political climate in the United States, Chavarria, based in New York, is becoming more vocal. Fashion and politics are never the easiest bed fields, but it argues that today’s luxury customers are more likely to remain faithful to those brands with which they feel more socially and ethically aligned. In addition, who could resist their giant velvet suits, floral corsages and dagger necklaces? Chavarria brings fun to the fashion landscape after a long period of “quiet luxury”, which makes it a refreshing change.

Equally exciting is Mark Ellwood’s research on the machinations of the United States fertility industry and its current obsession with super premium sperm. American Sperm has become one of the most expensive resources in the country, Mark writes: “By weight, super-premium semen obtains $ 4,000 or more for a gram.” But what is promoting the market up and who is prepared to pay? Mark’s report is a fascinating vision of the global sperm bank market that was valued, in 2023, at $ 5.1 billion.

Finally, know a HTSI Style icon, the Mel Ottenberg stylist that has been editor in chief of Interview Magazine since 2021. A natural successor of the founder of that title Andy Warhol, Mel is instantly recognizable in the fashion circuit for a comparable version of the pop artist OG: Double denim, Frye Boots and a snow white hair crash. I love a man who knows what works for him, and Mel’s style is a risky version of the American boy. It is also very fun. So, naturally, it had to be the sthere of this week.
