Fall 2026 Budget: What can small business owners expect?

The Fall 2026 Budget will be held on October 28, about a month earlier than last year’s Budget.

It is a first for the new Chancellor, John Healey, following his appointment by the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham. Cebr expects modest growth of 1.2% in 2026, but challenges still lie ahead with further energy price increases forecast and ongoing geopolitical turmoil.

Details are a bit scarce at the moment, but we’ll update this article as we learn more.

What could happen in the Fall 2026 Budget?

Reduction of commercial rates

Well, the only confirmed measure for small businesses so far is a 20% reduction in business rates for pubs, clubs and live music venues from April 2027. More details will be revealed at the end of October.

Wider business rates reforms could also be on the cards, including a higher business rates bill for warehouses.

HM Treasury has launched a Budget representation portal survey where comments can be submitted on existing policy for consideration in the Budget. It closes at 11:59 p.m. on September 9.
