Thank God my Mom was never like this. In fact she would always say to never kiss their face or hands. She would just smell the tops of their heads and hold them close or kiss their feet right before a bath.
And she always asked me what I preferred she do with my baby because that is MY child, not hers. I am hers. ❤ Love my Mama so much! ❤
Aaaand just like that you're out of your parents will. Survival of the fittest. If you can die just by being kissed – living is not for you and we shouldn't waste our valuable resources on someone so weak.
Yup, my ex MIL thought every rule that restricted her access to our life was set by me even when they were set by my husband. And the spineless jellyfish let me take the blame every time. Just one of the reasons "the divorce came out of nowhere."
My youngest sibling got a kiss as a baby and now has a forever shitty immune system and get cold sores whenever they get sick. I don't care how much you wash your face or brush your teeth beforehand; never kiss a baby. Respect your kids boundaries too ffs
You may be the grandmother but that doesnt give you the right to makeup your own rules regarding babies/children if the parents ask you nicely not to do something you may not agree but its not your right to do it anyway.
I tihkn there's a reasonable middle ground here. Yes, grandparents are supposed to spoil their grandkids, but in small, forgivable ways, like sneaking ONE extra cookie in. Not by blatantly ignoring all rules. The catch is understanding why the rules exist and respecting the rules that are serious, and parents understanding that SOME rules, like no dessert before dinner, can be broken on a rare occasion.
There needs to be a healthier balance, the older generation definitely has things they can teach the younger generations but they do also need to respect the younger generations as well.
Ummm I’m sorry my mother can kiss my baby all day every day and same for my mother in law..that’s literally our moms now with that being said I wouldn’t want distant cousins or family members doing the same .. but my mother ? No I’d never react like this and it’s her baby because we are her babies..yall are fucking nuts
Also the fact that some of these grandmas who say "I have raised X (amount) of kids, i KNOW what i'm doing." Are parents who dumped their own kids (the new borns parent) to their own parents door and let them raised their kids…
i like to bring up how my generation is so lucky we are so much more informed and educated on what is safe and healthy for babies than any other generation in history
By all means give the baby all sorts of nasty cold bugs and viruses that will land them in ICU. That's not going to cost the parents thousands and wreck their nervous systems till the kid is in college, assuming they survive the RSV delivered via Grandma's wine-stained lips.
"but they need to grow an immune system" yes .. but not when they are a newborn baby who is at the most vulnerable time of their lives that they will ever be. RSV is a serious illness caused by spit and respiratory droplets. It can kill your kid and if it doesn't it can leave your kid permanently damaged. STOP GAMBLING WITH YOUR KIDS LIVES!
the reason the grandparents want the baby alone without the mom, especially when they're the parents of the father, and ESPECIALLY if they hate the wife, they want to try to bond with the baby shortly after its born, because they want their son, AND the grandbaby to favor them, instead of favoring the mother. and the mil usually thinks its the wife being an "evil harpy" keeping the baby from them, and their son will let them do whatever they want.
It’s called building immunities! Obviously you wouldn’t kiss the baby while you’re sick. If you have a cold if you have the flu, if you have anything like that, no! Grandma should not be kissing or being anywhere near the baby. But if you’re perfectly fine and perfectly well and you’re not sick, it’s called building immunities. The only way I could truly see it is if your baby is preemie because that is different. Preemie babies are more susceptible to bacteria because their immunities isn’t fully developed. But if your baby is a normal full ounce newborn! There completely fine!! Seriously!!
Next time an decrepit old person gets angry about not being allowed to kiss the baby, tell them about how babies have died irl and why they’re trying to kill the baby
Why do some grandparents get so crazy ???

If I EVER have any grandkids I will smother it with kisses like I did my own kids It would be so 💩 if I am not allowed to😢
Goodbye grandma!
The son is an annoying brat. He'll want free childcare but won't respect his mom.

Selective memory loss of being a parent with young children
The truth to this is insane!
This is the Covid generation. This is the dumbest video I’ve ever seen.

Why is so difficult to be respectful? Is NOT your baby!!!

“You all turned out fine”….um I beg to differ
TOXIC MIL
Win for the Dad defending his wife and standing firm in their rules

My mom was like that. Being a new mom around her was horrible
"I raised kids of my own and they turned out just fine!"
"I wanted to k!ll myself when i was in middle school.."
Is something im bound to have to use as a response..
i like to bring up how my generation is so lucky we are so much more informed and educated on what is safe and healthy for babies than any other generation in history
Children have died because of other people kissing them!

then leave my house, and don't come back until you can respect the rules.

Grandparents: "The child is our property too."
